In her role as 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate, Karla K. Morton has created a Little Town, Texas Tour to serve as an ambassador of poetry.  The tour's main mission is to bring poetry to teens across Texas, making poetry more accessible and relevant to students, especially in towns that may be underserved in the arts.

Along the way, Ms. Morton also speaks at various cancer centers, fundraising events and support groups, where she shares from Redefining Beauty, a poetry collection she wrote during her own diagnosis, treatment and survival of breast cancer.

She also speaks and presents readings and workshops at universities, bookstores, conferences, military bases, festivals and poetry gatherings.

Deadline!     

Morton's long-term goal as part of the Little Town, Texas Tour is to create and publish a book to include her own poems about the towns she visits plus select student poetry and art from winners of the Little Town, Texas Poetry and Art Contents.

A publisher is potentially interested in this project, and Karla has a manuscript submission deadline to meet. To be considered for inclusion in this potential book, winning poetry and artwork submissions from all participating Little Town, Texas Tour schools must be sent to littletown@kkmorton.com by December 31, 2010, accompanied by a release form.
